WEEK 6 - Statement of Intent Draft
I have chosen to use the song 'Where is the Love?" by The Black Eyed Peas for my protest music video. The Black Eyed Peas are an American musical group that formed in the year 1995. Originally they were an alternative hip hop group however, they subsequently changes their musical sound to pop and dance-pop music. My song choice is well known across the globe appearing top of charts in countries such as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland etc. I chose this song as I feel like it promotes many different powerful messages within the song itself covering multiple worldwide problems. Some of these issues include terrorism, war, hypocrisy, racism, gang crime, pollution and intolerance/violence against the LGBTQ+ community. The Black Eyed Peas are simply trying to spread awareness of issues that are going on in and around the world. The song questions whether there can love in a society full of hate and violence.
The song was released in 2003 raising these important global issues. However, these issues are still prevalent in 2020, even seventeen years later the song still appears to have the same message in todays society. Therefore, I know that I have chosen an appropriate song choice for the brief set as it fits nicely with the socially-conscious, 16-25 years, middle to upmarket demographic.
The song can be described as primarily exemplifying the theme regarding humans rights through the relationship between the individuals and society. Ultimately, The Black Eyed Peas exemplify their desire to return to a world with fairness, equality, and humanity.
In my music video I aim to create many different moods to cover all the different issues covered in the song. I think this will be more effective than focusing on just one problem.
