“An auteur is a filmmaker whose individual style and complete control over all elements of production give a film its personal and unique stamp.” Creating meaning that only he can, using the tools of filmmaking, through the lens of his mind and personality. A bad movie from an auteur was at least the work of an artist.)
- Spike Jonze original name was Adam Spiegel.
- He was born October 22, 1969 in Rockville, Maryland, U.S.
- Spike Jonze is an American director, screen writer, producer and actor.
- He came from a qualified background and attended San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) in California.
- Spike Jonze began is career photographing skateboarders and then later, shooting street skateboarding films.
- He became active in 1989 and since then he has produced brilliant commercials, tv, films and music videos.
- Spike Jonze is an auteur theorist. (This means as a director he uses the commercial apparatus of film-making in the same way that a 'painter uses paint').
- When looking at a few videos he has produced you can see that he is very creative, including a mixture of live action, animation and puppetry.
- There is a clear consistency of ideas used throughout his work which makes it recognisable amongst viewers.
- His unique filmmaking style led him to being in high demand as a director music videos during the 1990s.
- This resulted in Jonze having many collaborations with big names such as, Fatboy Slim, Kayne West, Beastie Boys etc.
