WORTH IT (YK Osiris) - Evaluation
WWW:
Overall I was rather pleased with my music video. I planned out what my shots were going to include before I started shooting, as well as this throughout filming new ideas became present and were incorporated within. This worked really well and created a good end product. I feel that I succeeded in using a variety of different shots which was interesting to watch as it created insight into the video from multiple views and perspectives. I am also content with the people I chose as they were both willing to co-operate and are natural performers (not camera shy) which therefore helped to sell the story line.
EBI:
To complete the music video I ended up filming on multiple days, this could be seen as a lack of planning. Throughout the process, I had to go back and film more shots in order to have enough to construct an effective and clear storyline for the video. Furthermore, next time I feel like I could improve the aesthetic of the shot to create a more professional outcome by removing unnecessary objects which often filled the background.
Below are some shots that I thought could have been improved further, as well as shots that I was pleased with.
I feel as if this shot should have been clearer, as well as filmed for a second longer therefore being easier for the audience to read.
On the right hand side you can see the string of the light switch. Also in the back corner a bottle of shampoo can be seen this placement could of been more thought through.
The extractor fan (vent) can be seen from the angle I shot the shower head from. Next time I need to try and shoot shots such as this and eliminate unnecessary objects to make it look more professional.
My chosen song has nothing to do with Christmas season therefore the Christmas tree in the background is inapropriate.
I should of cleared the table throughly as different and irrelevant objects can be seen within the background.
The light in the bottom left hand corner ruins the shot as it doesn't give the same effect.
I should have shot this in a different location within her bedroom as the light switch does not look professional. As well as this there is a hanger on the her bed which should have been removed before filming the shot.
The door stop ruins the shot. There also could have been more shoes in the shot lined up instead of just the two to give more of an impression that she is picking and deciding what heels to wear.
The contrast between the dark background and the light background inside is too dramatic and should be a lot less harsh. This can be seen by looking at the photo next to and below this text.
In this shot Cyrus is spraying after shave onto his neck whilst getting ready to go and pick up Corina. We can even see the liquid being ejected out of the spray bottle and land on his neck. It gives off a certain kind of satisfaction. This gives off a feeling of closeness as the shot is shot so close to his body and his neck is on show.
Here Corina is applying lipgloss. Like the shot above I feel like this is quite personal and almost seductive. Nothing extra or unnecessary seems to be present in the shot therefore it looks clean and quite professional.
Like the shot above there are no extra and unnecessary objects within in the background. By also shooting this shot against a white wall is focuses all our attention on Cyrus putting on his suit jacket. I feel as if this a good shot as it adds a nice touch to him finishing getting ready to go out.
This is a clear and well shot scene. The flowers are a vibrant pink/reddy colour. They fit with the romantic story line. However, unfortunately you can see the reflection of Cyrus in the doors in the distant.
This clip of Corina walking down the stairs after getting ready is very delicate. It gives an elegant feeling.
There are multiple shots of Cyrus lip syncing which I think work really well, however one of my favourite is where I have taken the shot looking into the mirror. It gives an outsider look into the story, which is a change as the majority of the video is very intimate with both Cyrus and Corina.

You must always over-plan and come up with more ideas for shots than you think you need in a music video - it is always better to have a choice between multiple shots/takes than having to use one because it's the only one you have. Filming over multiple days is not necessarily a bad thing, but you must have a meticulous plan for what you are going to do over those days so that you remain organised. Make sure that you are using subject terminology when describing your shots to demonstrate your theoretical knowledge. I would have liked to see a little more of a clear divide between the shots you liked and those that could have been improved, as well as considering how you constructed representations in this video.
